Effect of lactation length adjustment procedures on genetic parameter estimates for buffalo milk yield Genet. Mol. Biol.
Baldi,Fernando; Laureano,Monyka Marianna Massolini; Gordo,Daniel Gustavo Mansan; Bignardi,Annaiza Braga; Borquis,Rusbel Raul Aspilcueta; Albuquerque,Lucia Galvão de; Tonhati,Humberto.
The objectives of this study were to estimate the genetic parameters for milk yield unadjusted and adjusted for days in milk and, subsequently, to assess the influence of adjusting for days in milk on sire rank. Complete lactations from 90 or 150 days of lactation to 270 or 350 days in milk were considered in these analyses. Milk yield was adjusted for days in milk by multiplicative correction factors, or by including lactation length as a covariable in the model. Milk yields adjusted by different procedures were considered as different traits. Heritability estimates varied from 0.17 to 0.28. Genetic correlation estimates between milk yields unadjusted and adjusted for days in milk were greater than 0.82. Adjusting for days in milk affected the parameter...

Estimates of correction factors for lactation length and genetic parameters for milk yield in buffaloes Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Tonhati,H.; Muñoz,M.F.C.; Duarte,J.M.C.; Reichert,R.H.; Oliveira,J.A.; Lima,A.L.F..
Correction factors for milk yield at 90, 240, 270 and 305 days of lactation of buffaloes and genetic and environmental parameters for milk yield of these lactation periods were estimated. The data used consisted of 3888 lactation records of 1630 buffaloes from 10 herds reared in the State of São Paulo. Genetic parameters were estimated by the derivative free restricted maximum likelihood method, fitting an animal repeatability model. Heritability estimates for milk yield corrected for 90, 240, 270 and 305 days of lactation were 0.17, 0.15, 0.14 and 0.14, respectively. In this same order, repeatability estimates were 0.40, 0.44, 0.41 and 0.41. The genetic correlation estimates between these corrected milk yields ranged from 0.96 to 1.00. The multiplicative...

Milk production of crossbred Holstein × Zebu cows in the northeastern region of Paraná State R. Bras. Zootec.
Perotto,Daniel; Kroetz,Inácio Afonso; Rocha,José Lázaro da.
The objective of this work was to evaluate milk production of a Holstein × Zebu herd managed on a semiintensive system at Estação Experimental Joaquim Távora, IAPAR, in the northeastern region of Paraná - Brazil. Two hundred and seventeen records on milk production per lactation period (MY), milk production up to 305 days of lactation (MY305) and length of lactation period (LL) of 82 crossbred cows varying in breed composition were analyzed according to a linear statistical model that included the fixed effects of breed composition, season and year at onset of lactation, order of parturition and place of birth, in addition to the experimental error. Cows born in Joaquim Távora had longer lactation periods and produced more milk than cows born in Ibiporã....
